Maker Digest #11

This week’s Maker Digest is all about a massive custom made CNC machine,  giant lightsabers, drawer mounting tips, and cool twist on making your own straight edge for your circular saw from Nick Ferry!  So grab a cold one and follow along!

Frank Howarth’s Monster CNC Machine

Frank’s last few videos have been about the building of his massive new custom CNC machine!  This think is super sweet.  Did I mention how big it is?  It’s like a giant X-Carve.  The gantry alone makes me drool!  Be sure to follow along with the process as Frank has several more videos coming up about this machine.  I can’t wait to see what he makes with it.

Bob Clagett’s Awesome Giant Lightsabers!

This week Bob shows off his super creative side again with some giant lightsabers that will be used as decorations in a Star Wars themed Christmas display (think yard art).  The thing is, I think I actually did my first real LOL when I saw Bob actually try to have a lightsaber fight with these things.  Pure awesome.  Check it out!  Bob Clagett’s Giant Lightsabers

Down to Earth Woodworking’s Easy Drawer Mount Tips

This week Steve shows us his simple technique for mounting drawer slides and getting it just right the first time.  And he does it 100% without the use of any special jigs.  If you’ve got a future project involving drawer slides, you’ll definitely want to check this video out.  And be sure to check out his website at downtoearthwoodworking.com.

Nick Ferry made a Door Board

Nick put together something called a door board.  Pretty sweet!  I’d never considered the option of making my own straight edge.  Cutting down sheet goods is something I do fairly often. so its critical that I have a nice straight edge to go off of.  I got a store bought aluminum guide bar, but this is a fantastic alternative.  You can find more Nick and nickferry.com.

About The Geek Pub’s Maker Digest

I follow a lot of Makers around the web, and I subscribe to a lot of Maker Channels on YouTube.  Each week I pick my favorite projects from around the Maker Community and post them here (and on The GeekPub Facebook page).  I look for unique and interesting projects, as well projects that require fine craftsmanship, or a specific skill to accomplish.  These makers put a lot of effort into their videos.  So if you like their work, please consider subscribing to their channel!  Check out her site at WilkerDos.com!

Suggest a Project to be Featured

I can’t watch every single video on YouTube or follow every single maker’s website.  So if you have a project that you’d like to be seen here (whether you found it or made it), drop me a line at mike (at) thegeekpub.com so I don’t miss it!
