The 9th episode of The GeekBits Podcast is here! In this episode we brainstorm about what the future of the auto industry looks like and try to answer the question: “It it really game over for legacy automakers?”
Is it Game Over for Legacy Automakers?
With the rise of the electric car and the legacy automakers failure to see how quickly the transition to electric was going to occur, it it too late for these companies to survive? It may be!
Most of the legacy automakers were certain Tesla would fail. They made predictions of their demise for years. Then when these predictions would fail they would continue to move the goalpost and lie to their shareholders about the future. When it became all too clear that electric cars were going to take over the legacy automakers started scrambling to make headway in this new market. However, it may be too little too late. With some predictions like those of Sandy Munroe predicting Tesla will own the new car market in just a few years.
And it hasn’t helped that politicians on both sides of the fence playing games for purely profit and political points have done nothing but make the situation worse for these legacy automakers.

Been watching “The 8-Bit Guy” for several years now, but this was the first time I had a listen to your podcast. Well, you said it was long but I listened to the entire thing. Found the entire discussion to be highly informative and definitely learned a thing or two. I’ve always been a big fan of electric vehicles, mostly because I worked in the electrical/power electronics industry for many years and had ambitions of building my own “Tesla” style company before there was even a Tesla. Sadly that didn’t come to be, although I did extensive development in battery charging and management, and motor speed control for my own vehicles.
Anyway, over time I have “succumbed” to some of the arguments against EV’s, and hearing some of these myths debunked here, and listening to a well balanced discussion like this was deeply interesting. Thanks so much guys.
I don’t need to agree with you guys to praise on for being brave enough to bring up politics on the internet and for talking about it in a very kind and constructive way (mostly). I don’t completely agree with what you said, but thank you for saying it! 🙂
Are electric cars really an ecological benefit, or does this just kick the can down the road toward the power plant? This is not a loaded question. I really want to know. I do not have a political position here. 🙂
Never mind. You got there.
