Disable Explorer Click Sounds

Windows 7 is full of annoyances.   One of those annoyances is that every time you click anything in Windows Explorer, it feels the need to make a clicking sound.  And it might sound silly, but where is the “Stop it!” check box to turn this thing off?  There isn’t once.  Microsoft must not think you will want to!

Turn off Explorer Click Sounds

The fastest way to disable explorer’s click sounds is to go to the Control Panel and click Sound (Click Start –> Click Control Panel –> Click Sound).  Alternatively you can click Start –> Enter mmsys.cpl into the Search/Run box and press Enter.

Once there click on the Sounds tab.  Scroll down until you find Start Navigation (it will be under the Windows Explorer category).  Click Start Navigation to highlight it.

Now select (none) in the Sounds drop down box, followed by clicking the OK button.

It’s really that easy!
