Windows 7 (and especially Windows Vista) can truly annoy you with it’s constant pop-ups asking you to approve an action. These pop-ups are part of a “feature” added by Microsoft called UAC (User Access Control). While UAC certainly makes your computer more secure, we have to wonder if there wasn’t a better way to accomplish this. Fortunately, we have a few tricks to make UAC less annoying without removing it entirely (although removing it is an option we will provide).
1) Instead of disabling UAC, create Administrator Mode Shortcuts
One thing you can do that will simplify a lot of your tasks is to create an administrator mode shortcut for your most used application(s). This will allow you to open them without getting a UAC prompt.
2) Disable the Blacking out of the UAC screen.
When UAC prompts you for approval, it blacks out your entire screen except for the UAC box. This can be highly irritating for some people. Disabling this blacking out or dimming of the screen will certainly speed up your computer if it has a slow video card and make the UAC experience less irritating.
- Disable Blacking out the UAC Screen in Windows 7
- Disabling UAC Screen Blackout in Windows Vista Business or Ultimate
- Disable UAC Screen Blackout in Windows Vista Home
3) Auto-Accept UAC prompts for Administrative Users.
This one is a little dangerous for some, but you can set UAC to basically disappear for users who have admin access. UAC will simply auto elevate and move on. This is certainly more secure and less annoying than full blown UAC, but does increase your risks of getting a malware infection.
4) Completely Disable UAC.
This is actually becoming a very popular option. While it is not recommended for new to intermediate users it might be appropriate for power users, systems administrators, etc. who are a little more savvy about potential threats.

Thanks for posting these Kelli! I find UAC infuriating. Microsoft should be spanked!
