Have you ever made changes, or wanted to make a change to your computer, but been unsure of what might happen if you do? Worried that the change might break something, or even worse that you wouldn’t remember how to change it back?
Windows 7 has a handy feature for getting you out of a hairy situation easily. This feature is called System Restore. System Restore allows you to create what is called a System Restore Point, basically a point in time snapshot of your system settings. If something goes wrong, you can easily restore all of your settings to what they were at the time you took the snapshot (before you made a change).
Navigate to your Control Panel and click System (Click Start –> Click Control Panel –> Click System):
From the System window, click Advanced System Settings in the left menu.
Now, click on the System Protection tab at the top of the System Properties screen.
At the bottom of this screen under the Protection Settings section is a label that says “Create a restore point right now for the drives that have system protection turned on.” Next to this label is a Create button. Click Create.
System Protection will prompt you to name this restore point. Enter a name in the box (the current date and time will be added to the end of the name you type) and click Create.
System restore will create the restore point. This might take several minutes (or longer on slower machines) but usually completes in about a minute.
To restore the settings from your System Restore Point click System Restore on the System Protect Tab we talked about above. For more information see our article on How to recover from a System Restore Point.
Yes, it’s really that simple!

I follow all the steps above and it the restore point created successfully. However, when I check my system restore point after the computer reboot, it did not save the restore point I just created ???????
