How to Enable Military Time in Windows 7

If you are a member of the armed forces, or have a special need for military time,  enabling the system clock to show military time in Windows 7 or Vista might be important to you. However, finding the setting is not is not as simple as most would think it would be.

To change the system to military time keeping, we will need to visit to the Regional and Language Options screen. By far the best way to do this is just enter intl.cpl into the Start menu search box and hit enter (Click Start –> enter init.cpl into the search/run box).  Optionally you can launch Region and Languages from the Control Panel (Click Start –> Control Panel –> Region and Languages).

From the Region and Language options dialog, click the “Customize this format” button, and then select the Time tab.

Change the time format drop-down as indicated:

This might be a little confusing at first, but the capital letter H means 24 hour time, and a single letter means that it won’t display the leading zero.

In Windows 7, things have been simplified a bit – just change the drop-down as shown:

  1. Another way of changing the Time Format is to “click” on the Time at the bottom right corner and click on “Change date and time settings..”
